WRONG. Phone patches have NOTHING to do with it. Uniden (actually Greg
Knox) used the control channel method because that's how the real radios
do it. GRE did not initially have a way to use the control channel, and
since Greg patented his method., GRE could not use it. So, they had to
come up with another way to track a system, thus the development of using
the sub-audible data. Later GRE began using the control channel because
Motorola's patent expired.
