I'm under the impression that a couple of the AOR units, like the 8600, only
provide an output signal to the 10.7 MHz I.F. tap in WFM mode ... probably
not the best mode for trunked channels.
The impression I got from reading an updater regarding the Dayton Hamfest,
and the introduction of the ARD5000, on the AOR-UK site doesn't sound like we
will see the new unit in 2002.
It also doesn't sound like trunk-following is the primary intention of the
new radio, although AOR-USA may have its own plans for add-on accessories.
AOR-UK posted the following regarding the ARD5000 on their website this past
Wednesday:
<< ARD5000 >>
<< A new 'software radio' is being developed by AOR Japan. Connection is to
the 10.7MHz I.F. output of the AR5000 so that DSP demodulation of data modes
can be achieved, potentially features such as TRUNKING can also be supported.
Production is still some way off, no further information is available at this
time. >>
