[TrunkCom] BC780 frequency mod

According to the Yahoo BC780 list, the March issue of Scanning USA has an
article in it that details how to open up the frequency coverage of the
BC780.
I am not so interested in actually listening on these "new" frequency (I
already have a couple of full coverage radios), but I am very curious about
how they did it.
Does anyone out there have the Magazine and can elaborate how they did it.
Are they doing some kind of down conversion, or is it something more
elaboriate?
