no it doesn't hurt or slow down performance any either way. How do you figure it may be causing a problem?
It'll help in the regard you can find all the agencies who are using a tone. After a while once you get familiar with who uses what tones and esp if you get any interference you may wish to enter in the
tone and scan in tone squelch mode.
