Detroit and Windsor public safety officials have reached a mutual
agreement in the interest of
promoting better border security and international relations that will
enable each city to share
talkgroups on their trunked radio systems.

The new 800 MHz ASTRO TRS that is currently undergoing testing in
Detroit and the earlier Type
II TRS previously installed in Windsor, Ontario are both manufactured by
Motorola, having
significant coverage overlapping in both cities.

Under the new agreement, both systems will have mutual talkgroups for
international events along the
Detroit riverfront, promoting coordination for border security and
failsoft operations should one of
the systems be disabled by a critical failure. A similar agreement may
be in the offing between the Downriver TRS and Canadian public safety
agencies across the river in Ontario.

Windsor officials are currently planning to upgrade their present Type
II TRS to an ASTRO
(APCO-25) TRS, within the next two years, with the addition of several
new tower sites across the
city and adjoining areas.
