I'm posting this as a courtesy. I hope none of the mailing list moderators
think it is off topic. Stolen radio equipment is a serious problem that I
think should concern all radio enthusiasts. If anyone comes across these
radios...

Thanks and 73,
Marlo- KA2IRQ

Subject: QST regarding stolen Motorola Spectra radios

QST
Re: Stolen Motorola radios from Ocean County, NJ

Since approximately July 8, several Motorola SPECTRA dash mount mobile
radios have been stolen from school buses in various entities in Ocean
County. These stolen radios may appear at ham radio flea markets, on e-Bay,
or anywhere that communications equipment may be traded or sold.

The specific municipalities and the number of radios stolen are as follows:
18 from Lacey Twp., 14 from Toms River, 37 from Stafford Twp., 25 from
Manchester Twp., and 17 from Ocean County Ride transit buses. These radios
have been reported stolen through NCIC.

Motorola SPECTRA radios are not programmable via the front panel, but rather
must be programmed via proprietary Motorola software and by a special radio
interface box or "RIB". Upon being powered up the alphanumeric display may
spell out the name of one of the entities mentioned above when scrolling
through the memory channels.

If you see any mobile radios of this description being offered for sale that
has an altered or missing serial number placard or evidence of a property
tag being scraped off, please notify the Ocean County Sheriff's Department
immediately at (732)349-2010.

Authority: Ocean County OEM, NJ OEM.
