About a year ago there was a discussion about how to charge or how long to
charge your 235 batteries.
Many opinions were expressed, such as what charger?? to plug into the side
of the 235 instead of the issued wall wart.
At that time I mentioned I liked the MAHA chargers to faster (than the 14
hours) charge than the wall wart, or the 12 V cigarette lighter cord, which
will power the 235 and also charge the barttery at the same time - at the 14
hour rate I should add.
Some people were condcerned about leaving their radio/spare battery charging
for more than the 14 hours, some said that it would bake the battery, and
destroy it.
At that time I stated that I had been charging my radio and spare battery
24/7 and would report back.
Here is my report on charging for over a year ago.
The radio and spare battery were on charge for all this time, for about 6
months I used the 235 and swapped the batteries when I got back home.
Then, for the last 6 months I did nothing.
So for the last 6 months both the radio/battery and the spare battery have
been in the charger continously.
I used the 235 Saturday, it ran for about 4 hours, then the spare battery
ran for about 6 more hours.
Then I used both Sunday and the spare (which was charged in the radio
overnight) ran about 6 hours and I was unable to run down the battery which
only ran 4 hours the day before (I ran down before it did).
Conclusion:
Charging over 14 hours (for over a year) did not seem to damage the
batteries.
The battery charged in the cradle seems to get a better charge than the
battery charged in the radio.
So just use your wall wort and not worry about it.
I still have the option of charging these batteries with the MAHA chargers
in less than one hour if I have to.
