Greetings,
600Mhz band is currently reserved for UHF-TV. 700Mhz is used
by Channels: 53-68 Please refer to your frequency lists. Here is
one from the ARRL:
http://www.arrl.org/tis/info/catv-ch.html
The FCC is only considering realigning Channels 60-69 for alternative
use. This has not been done yet. Many UHF-TV stations remain in the
Ch60-69 range. The FCC will not realign the whole 700Mhz band which
includes UHF Channels down to Ch 53.
In the meantime, there is no way anyone is going to be using
UHF Ch36-53 (600Mhz) for anything else but then for UHF-TV and DTV.
600Mhz is not going anywhere. Chs35-53 will remain UHF-TV primary.
Any other allocated use, would ONLY be done on a local-ONLY basis.
Possible Government usage. But Public Safety or Business,
forget about it. We'll see if the FCC does anything like that. I
consider it unlikely.
(Certainly, do not expect any national realigning or reallocation of
the 600Mhz spectrum. If it were to happen, it is many years away.
The FCC is too busy trying to get DTV implemented around the
country. The DTV deadline is December 31, 2006 ; Analog TV
Broadcasts terminate on that date). Anything of the scoop mentioned
in the messages 'listed-below' would have to wait til after then to
see if it would be feasible. And since the 600Mhz range includes UHF-
TV Channels 35-52, a lot of recently licensed DTV Broadcasters would
be very, very mad at the FCC if they suddenly lost their new UHF-DTV
allocated slots. I know of several of them here in St Louis (This is
for St Louis alone):
Ch2 - KTVI-TV using Ch43-DTV
Ch4 - KMOV-TV using Ch56-DTV
Ch5 - KSDK-TV using Ch35-DTV
Ch9 - KETC-TV using Ch39-DTV
Ch46 - WHSL-TV using Ch47-DTV
Imagine all the kaos created around the nation if the FCC realigned
the 600Mhz range. Its not going to happen until after December
31 of the year 2006. The Analog-to-Digital transition dealine date.
In the meantime, look for your local Trunk Radio Systems to remain in
the 800Mhz, 900Mhz & 400Mhz ranges.
After all, that is what we are talking about, right? Trunk Systems?
