Without going deep into IBM's business philosophy, IBM uses current and past business
relationships to leverage opportunities in the business sector. Through their numerous
subsides they can provide an array of services. The Company's major operations comprise a
Global Services segment; three hardware product segments (Enterprise Systems, Personal and
Printing Systems, and Technology); a Software segment; a Global Financing segment; and an
Enterprise Investments segment.
IBM employs JV's (Joint Ventures) to accomplish many of their projects. I'm sure they have
installed a system under a JV (even if they just supplied the IP backbone equipment). IBM
uses numerous vendors equipment. IBM often signs a "Private Label Deal" when supplying
equipment for projects.
