And lest anyone claim to have an inside track -- especially on a DATE
these alleged machines will be in our hands, here's a condensed thread
from the "scan-l" list beginning more than two years ago... the story is
was, and continues to be, a lott of rumor and guessing...

History shows that any attempt to find out anything about future
scanners
will be met with anything from pleading ignorance to overt lies. They
have
no marketing interest in letting you or their competitors know of their
plans until the product's release is imminent. When they are ready,
they
will tell us.

There are no plans at this time to sell an APCO 25
compliant digital scanner in calendar year 2000 from
Uniden. New products, however are always considered.
Communications Electronics, Emergency Operations
Center is a Uniden master distributor under contract with
Uniden America. Each of our account administrators at
Uniden as well as our Uniden manufacturers representatives
have e-mail and voice mail. To keep scanner dealers
up to date on new Uniden products, CEI features
the Uniden reseller news at the CEI web site. To view
this information visit our web site at
http://www.usascan.com then click on "CEI News".
If the information is not there, it is usually because
that Uniden item or technology will not be available
for at least six months or more.

Communications Electronics routinely forwards customer
messages and new product requests to the appropriate people
at Uniden as your e-mail is received. However, we do request
your e-mail contain your first and last name as well as
a day and evening telephone number along with your e-mail
address for a quicker response. Please keep e-mails brief.

Bob, don't get your hopes up. The person who responds to the e-mail is
usually a public relations person, who emphatically denies that Uniden
is
making a specific product, that 6 months later, is on dealer's shelves.

I was looking back in my messages to see if I could find a specific post
from Uniden saying that they had no intention of making a radio that
would
track trunking systems........., but I guess that left with one of my
hard
drive crashes!

The website address is: http://www.uniden.com and you should be able to
get
some e-mail addresses from there!

Uniden should have the digital trunking scanner by years end[actually
the digital part is an optional plug in] so why buy anything else
just hope it will do the VHF/uhf splinter type channels now in use as
well as the aircraft band new channels steps
--

What info are you basing this on? Is this fact or vaporware? Has Uniden
released info that they will have a digital scanner?

This is an old rumor that has resurfaced. Uniden has made no such
annoucement - they have not even developed it yet. It IS being worked
on, but not by Uniden engineers, and will NOT be ready by year's end.
The plug-in you refer to is being produced by another company (not
Uniden) for use in the 895xlt (and possibly other scanners also). The
board will be produced first, then the technology will be incorporated
into scanners. But the board will come with a hefty price tag,
somewhere
around $900.
