Yes and no, it depends which Astro you are talking about. Motorola has
called all of their digital systems Astro, both their non-APCO-25 digital
system and APCO-25 digital systems. What you have out there is:
- Astro systems using the non-P25 3600 baud control channel with the
VSELP (non-P25) vocoder [example: Celeveland, OH and Memphis, TN]
- Astro systems using the non-P25 3600 baud control channel with the IMBE
(P25) vocoder [called "Astro CAI"] [several examples, such as state of
Florida, Boca Raton, etc]
- Astro systems using the P25 9600 baud control channel with the IMBE
(P25) vocoder [state of Michigan]
All of these are called "Astro" systems.
