[Trunkcom] Pro -93 software problems

Hi Folks!

In my last post regarding the Pro93 about buying one when it goes on sale...
well, it went on sale as some here mentioned.  Tonight I got one - $169.
Scanner works just fine, however...

The manual describes "PC programmable" with  PC programming kit from Radio
Shack.
Granted, this is not a "control program" (like Scancat, Winscan etc.),
however;
I figured it would be nice to be able to upload / download .dbf files to
make things easy for 300 ch + alpha tags. Sales person says to try the "new
PC programming kit for the Pro-93" So I bought cat. #20-048.  It isn't very
much ($15) and is basically a DB-9 to 1/8" jack serial cable and CD ROM s/w.

Here's (unfortunately) what I discovered:

1.) installed the software and under the configuration is only allows the
following choices for "scanner choice":  Pro-76, 79, 89,2016, 2017.  Will
not allow one to
type in Pro-93, 2053 etc.
2.) looking at the "about" it is called Scanner Loader, Copyright 2000 GRE,
version 1.00, Jan 1, 2001.
3.) In the Pro-93's manual, page16 it says "can upload/download to or from
PC using optional PC interface kit from Radio Shack".  That page also refers
you to page 49 where it describes the "cloning mode".  The cloning mode only
talks about how to clone data between the Pro -93 and another or it's
desktop equivalent, the Pro-2053.  When the cable is plugged into the
scanner's "PC/IF" port, and scanner is powered on, it display reads < *CLONE
MODE* UP to send >

After trying several attempts to make something work either to or from
scanner I now have a few questions / concerns:

1) Why does Radio Shack market this scanner (Pro-93) to have a PC interface
AND they sell you their software package if neither are compatible?
2) How the heck do you even get the Pro-93 into the "download" mode - the
manual leaves much to be desired as it does not even describe this.  It only
will display *CLONE MODE* UP to send.  Any other key but "up" exits the
clone mode.
3) This leads me to believe either no compatible software exists for the
Pro-93 and/or the version 1.00 Scanner Loader Software has a newer version
someplace that INCLUDES the Pro-93/2053 in it's list.  Where is it?  I
looked all over both the Radioshack catalog and www.radioshack.com ???
4.) on page 101 of the Radio Shack catalog, it states that the PC
Programming Kit (#20-048) works with scanner models mentioned I previously
mentioned above, which would have made me NOT buy it.  However, the sales
people at Radio Shack tell you that the Pro-2053/Pro-93 DO USE THIS
software.  They seriously don't have a clue...

To say the least, it is frustrating glitch in an otherwise nice scanner.
I will be keeping the Pro-93, but will return the software they sold me.
And, yes, they will give me flak trying to return the software as being
opened, but hey - it is FALSE ADVERTISING and not compatible.  As expected
of Radio Shack
"you got questions, they don't have a clue".

Anyone else with a Pro-93 or 2053 have this same problem?
