Hi Folks!

Here is a simple, inexpensive and green project to recycle old laptop displays and use the for custom display applications using HDMI, DVI and VGA interfaces.  I have tried it on Windows 10 and  Windows 7 on Intel machines,  and Raspian on Raspberry Pi machines - all with success.

The fancy  display controller board was $29 shipped by mail from China and it arrived In about 9 days.  Some are simpler, VGA-only models for as little as $16.  There are some with USB video inputs as well!

Mine features stereo audio in and out ports which is handy.  The whole thing runs on a 12V DC, 2.1 mm barrel connector.  The required voltages are generated on an inverter board which is insulated.   There are two other pre-wired boards: the interface board and the button control board.  In addition to the power connector, there is a multipin connector for the display and a small display backlight power connector.

My next step will be to mount this whole assembly using some nice wood and trim and integrate it into my work bench.  I'm also thinking about using these to create displays for field use where equipment casualties are more likely.

Anyone else have any cool ideas for recycling old  computers or their parts?
