We are in need of Radio Amateurs who can help provide a world class Amateur Radio experience during the NJ State Police / National Guard Camporee on the weekend of May 19-21.? Setup will be on Friday and activities will be on Saturday and possibly Sunday morning.? The key event period is Saturday during the day. Each Scout Council has been asked to provide activities to expand some of the really cool events being provided by a broad range of public agencies. Our plan for the Northern New Jsesey Council is to provide hands-on activities including operating HF/VHF/UHF radio and Echolink, station? logging, radio direction finding, solar power systems, AREDN MESH Networks, Internet of Things,? Morse Code, antenna testing, and Amateur Radio? orientation and outreach to enable Scouts to follow up by getting their Radio Merit Badge and an Amateur Radio license through a local club near them. If you are interested, and are not going to the? Dayton Hamvention that weekend, then please reach out to me ASAP, so we can get you vetted and registered.? All Amateur Radio operators of sound character are welcome to apply to contribute to the success of this memorable triennial event.? POWDERHORN TRAINING [http://files.constantcontact.com/e3caaf7f301/f6649250-9f4d-43a3-b794-39bd8b574f99.png] Powder Horn is a resource course designed to introduce Scouting's adults and youth to the exciting program possibilities for their unit. The course supports the mission of strengthening units so they can achieve the mission of the Boy Scouts of America. One common denominator of successful courses is that creativity and variety play a role in the delivery of the curriculum. Each course is somewhat different, and that is a good thing. Some courses have had participants arrive by canoe, horseback, on bike, or even on skis. Creativity is fun, too! The ultimate goal is for the participants to leave the Powder Horn course with a list of ideas to help their program, along with the contacts and resources needed to implement them. This will lead to a more robust program, which in turn should lead to increased membership and a higher retention rate in our units. E-LEARNING VIA MY.SCOUTING My.Scouting.org is transitioning to become the one place volunteers can go for volunteer resources. Now, e-Learning training courses can be taken online at my.Scouting.org. Leaders can complete any of the courses found in their My Dashboard under the Home menu list. When My Dashboard is selected, it displays the My Training page with four new tabs to select: * YPT - Displays the Youth Protection training courses available. To make it easier for new volunteers, the system defaults to the YPT tab. * Training Center - Displays the Scouting programs (Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Venturing and Varsity, and Other) containing training courses applicable to the specific program. Those under "Other" contain courses related to Health and Safety and district-level training. * Requirements - Displays training courses that are required to be completed to become position-trained for current registered position(s). Courses that are not offered online will show "Classroom Training." Please consult your council's website for scheduled classroom trainings. * Completions - Displays training courses that were completed. It also allows the ability to print a certificate for a completed course. Here is a simple, inexpensive and green project to recycle old laptop displays and use the for custom display applications using HDMI, DVI and VGA interfaces.? I have tried it on Windows 10 and? Windows 7 on Intel machines,? and Raspian on Raspberry Pi machines - all with success. The fancy? display controller board was $29 shipped by mail from China and it arrived In about 9 days.? Some are simpler, VGA-only models for as little as $16.? There are some with USB video inputs as well!? Mine features stereo audio in and out ports which is handy.? The whole thing runs on a 12V DC, 2.1 mm barrel connector.? The required voltages are generated on an inverter board which is insulated.?? There are two other pre-wired boards: the interface board and the button control board.? In addition to the power connector, there is a multipin connector for the display and a small display backlight power connector. My next step will be to mount this whole assembly using some nice wood and trim and integrate it into my work bench.? I'm also thinking about using these to create displays for field use where equipment casualties are more likely. Anyone else have any cool ideas for recycling old? computers or their parts?? 73, Gordon Beattie, W2TTT 201.314.6964 Get Outlook for Android -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
