Hi Gordon & Nancy,
Unfortunately the June camping trip has been planned to include Sunday afternoon, it is not our typical trip where we will be leaving early. The Troop will be attending Mass Saturday evening in Walden NY, to accommodate our Sunday activities. This trip has been on the Troop calendar all year. Arrangements have been made and deposits have been paid for Saturday's horse back riding and Sunday's fishing & boating. This is a family camping trip and we have been trying very hard to have Scout parents and siblings attend, it is not practical to expect families to attend a Court of Honor Sunday evening.
Another viable date would be July 25th the Saturday before the Troop attends summer camp, this would be a good date for the Troop attendance wise. We have 17 Scouts attending summer camp on July 26, so they'll be in town. I do not know if there are any Parish facilities available that day.
There aren't any other summer weekend Troop activities planned, however as you stated it is very difficult to gather people during summer vacation. Hopefully, July 25 will work out.
Talk with you soonJudy

> Sadly, the prior weekend is not a good choice for the availability of all three of the Eagle Scouts. To make things a bit more difficult, that would be Father's Day weekend, which is probably not a wise choice as attendance is likely to be a problem for many Scouting families beyond those of the Eagles.

> We were hoping that by scheduling it later in the day on Sunday, June 28th, that the camping trip would not have been an issue.
> There has been a successful track record of having celebrations after camping trips in the past.
> For many years we would go camping, return to Mass at St. John's and then head off to the Cathedral for Scout Sunday.
> Also, we have returned from the Weboree and had Eagle Courts of Honor on at least one occasion with great success.

> So given where we are with the calendar, the question comes as to whether we can move the Court of Honor out into July and have a good response. Prior experience has shown that July and August creates conflicts that diminish attendance dramatically. I'm certain that the Parish facilities can be found on many different days in the summer, but these celebrations are about people coming together to enjoy each other's company in friendship and fellowship. Summer dates seem to be more of a challenge for Troop families to attend than the acknowledged "rush rush" of returning, cleaning up and getting to St. John's by late afternoon or evening. Please consider these factors and let me know if we can proceed with Sunday the 28th.

We think that it would be too much for the boys and their families, after the rigorous activities that are planned for that weekend's camp. As an alternative, we inquired and found that Sunday, June 20, Conlon Hall is available to use. There will be time to send out invitations and make arrangements, and the boys would be able to give whole-hearted support to the Eagles.

Further, these boys have jobs during the week, and in Charlie's case 3.5 hours from here. The idea would be to have a simple ceremony with some specific guest speakers and not the usual parade of random public officials. Further, the boys have requested that Scouts of the Troop both current and past speak on their behalf.
