Hi Folks!
This is a free training opportunity for the Troop to improve its skills with hazardous weather awareness.
There is a date on a Tuesday here in Bergen County as well as one a couple of weeks before in Passaic County.
I would recommend that folks sign up for the one in Bergen if possible.  This is also a value training for those considering the Weather Merit Badge and for all members of the Troop to enhance the rather minimal weather training that the BSA offers online.
Keep in mind that adult leaders need to do the BSA course if they are heading into the field with our Scouts.
Also, the course is offered every third or fourth year in our area, so taking the course THIS YEAR is convenient.
Do not worry about the referenced age limit as the National Weather Service folks have always welcomed our Troop.

PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR CERT MEMBERSHIP – The SKYWARN Training is offered free of charge by the National Weather Service.  Your members should use the link provided to register directly with the NWS.


FYI...2015 SKYWARN Training Class Pre-registration (required) is now open as noted below.

All CERT Team Members, Bergen County RACES operators and Public Safety personnel are invited and very welcome to attend!

In the past several years, many Bergen County CERT Members have taken these Classes and become Trained (and active) SKYWARN Spotters and as the National Weather Services requires a minimum for SKYWARN re-training of 3 years, some of those, as well as those who haven't yet taken the Class can benefit from  this local opportunity.

It is not necessary for someone to attend a Class in just their County of Residence...either of these local opportunities will work for anyone. Neither is an amateur radio license required. SKYWARN Training is offered free of charge by the National Weather Service for all those interested, over the age of 16, unless prior consent is given.
