Sergio, Reinier and Bryan have a little more time, but if they can get their project ideas under discussion, that would be fine as well. I will be forwarding the latest draft of Sean's proposed project in a follow up email. It will provide an example of both the workbook and how the project has to be documented. I'm sure that both the Troop and Mr. Catalano will be making suggestions for further improvements, but you could all benefit from comparing Sean's earlier version which was distributed a few weeks back and his current version. Including how many Scouts and adults will be needed for each, any supplies, transportation and other resources needed. It would also be good to specify how many of these events there will be, any training sessions that you might want to coordinate in advance along with the size of that group and resources needed for the training. One final thing to consider is how long each event will be, so that you can get a total estimate of planning and executing hours. I would imagine that you would have a training event for the collection phase and another for the public event phase that would involve both you and folks from the served agency. These kinds of ideas will beef up your plan for Mr. Anthony Catalano who will be your District Advancement contact. I am cc?ing him on this email and will also forward your existing draft to him in case he has further suggestions. I am also cc?ing the Troop email list to get the other Scouts going through this process in sync with the requirements of a project. Yours in Scouting! Several Scouts have had trouble finding the Eagle Project Workbook in an editable form, so I am circulating the latest version of Sean's workbook. Please simply save it and then save it again with your name in place his. This way if you make a mistake, you can always go back to what Sean has done and start again. In addition to Sean, we expect to see one from Kofi, Dino and Sam this week. Further, Joe, John, Sergio, Reinier and Bryan are welcome to get moving on theirs as well. We would like to get these to the Scoutmaster Corps, Troop Committee and Mr. Catalano in an orderly fashion so that we can ensure that there is enough time for each Scout to complete their project with ample planning and leadership in the execution of the project. With Sean moving in July, and with six Scouts turning 18 in a year or less, we have a serious logistical issue to manage as a Troop while also working with the rest of the Scouts and the Troop program. I know that we can accomplish this as a Body of Christ, but each Scout, both the candidates and the rest of the Troop and their families will need to focus and be supportive. Yours in Scouting! Snow Shoveling Likely Saturday Night Sunday Morning Scouts need to prepare for this weather event including transportation. ? Late afternoon on Saturday, perhaps around 4:00 pm or so we will nwed to open things up for 5:30 pm Mass and whatever might be going on around the Parish on Saturday night. Sunday morning around 8:00 am or so makes sense to shovel for the Sunday Masses. ?The folks who come to 7:30 am Mass are an intrepid lot and if we had a couple of Scouts to get the rear doors of the Church open around 7:00 am that would be awesome! I will be unable to attend meetings this week, the 24th of February, and March 10th and 17th due to business commitments. I will be able to attend the meeting on the 3rd of March where we tentatively have the Webelos visiting. Once confirmed, I will let you know. We will need to have a PLC on the first of March at 7:00 PM to get things in order. I would recommend that some time be spent this week, going through supplies for Scout skills that would be good for the Troop and exciting for the Webelos as well. Additionally, Scouts need to pack for the trip next Saturday. If anyone needs gear, please let me know and I will arrange to get it to them or to another Scout. Once I receive my new work assignments I will let you know about my schedule for April through June. As a reminder, I am willing to go to Floodwood in August with Scouts and adults who might be interested. It is my understanding that week 5 at Camp Turrell is July 26th through August 1st. This is a free training opportunity for the Troop to improve its skills with hazardous weather awareness. There is a date on a Tuesday here in Bergen County as well as one a couple of weeks before in Passaic County. I would recommend that folks sign up for the one in Bergen if possible. This is also a value training for those considering the Weather Merit Badge and for all members of the Troop to enhance the rather minimal weather training that the BSA offers online. Keep in mind that adult leaders need to do the BSA course if they are heading into the field with our Scouts. Also, the course is offered every third or fourth year in our area, so taking the course THIS YEAR is convenient. Do not worry about the referenced age limit as the National Weather Service folks have always welcomed our Troop. Please confirm that you have gone online and registered. It is with great sadness that I inform you that our friend Mr. Joe Johnson has passed away. Mr. Johnson was the friendly gentleman who would come by Troop meetings several times each year with loads of American flags to be retired by our Troop. Many of our Scouts have lugged those bags down the stairs into the Troop room and later back up to be taken to Camp Alpine or in Robbie Schubert's case, Camp Lewis for a respectful retirement. Mr. Johnson was a former Marine and would also come by for Toys for Tots drives and other veterans related events. He was always enthusiastic about our Troop and helped cut "red tape" or individual reluctance by others for things that would be good for the Scouts of our Troop. For these many episodes, we offer our thanks and prayers, as his smiling face will be truly missed by all who were blessed to know him. Please say a prayer for our friend Joe and I will let you know of his final arrangements when they are sent out. As you know, we have been sending books and clothing to the seminaries in the Philippines that lost thousands of books in the November 2013 typhoon. ? On my recent trip, I spoke to the dean of studies of the high school and college seminary departments of the Archdiocese of Palo.? He is, of course, interested in receiving books that would be standard reading for high school and college students in the U.S.: ?English literature, novels, dramas, world history, church history, art, music, philosophy, sociology, psychology, math, science .....? I think the faculty like to receive high school and college textbooks that are being used in the U.S. to see what is being taught in American high schools and colleges. ? With regard to philosophy books, I will especially be seeking these from retired Jesuits and from retired diocesan priests who have taught philosophy.? With regard to science books, I would want to send only recent books. ? I have been seeking theology, Scripture, church history and canon law books primarily from retired priests, but if you have some of these, we will be glad to send them. ? ? CDs on academic topics are also welcome as are music CDs. ? Not all of the seminarians have their own Bibles. So if you have more Bibles than your family needs, it would be good to send them.? Dictionaries and other reference books are also helpful. ? The sister who is registrar of the major seminary appealed for office supplies.? If you had business envelopes and have retired or changed companies, the seminary can put their own label on top. ? In this digital age, we would not spend a lot of money to buy, say, reference books, but if we can get them for free, that's good.? Also, the Archdiocese of Palo in Leyte is a place that frequently loses electricity.? Our parish has a special connection with the Archdiocese of Palo as we have been served over the years by four priests from there -- Fathers Ramil, Amadeo, Wilson and Paul. ? We are also sending some books to the seminary of the Archdiocese of Capiz -- from which Fr. Dedert Duarte graduated and where he is expected to teach -- but obviously Leyte has the priority as the seminaries there lost so many books in the typhoon. ? ? For the Philippines, we want to send only summer clothing -- short-sleeve shirts, T-shirts, light slacks, shorts, bathing suits -- for the seminaries. ? ? If you have warm clothes, we can give them to the day laborers here in Bergenfield. ? I will be glad to collect books and clothing at our meeting Wednesday night.? ? If you would like to make a contribution to the costs of shipping cargo boxes, you can make out a check to St. John's Church and indicate Philippines seminary.? Kindly give this to me.? I will give it to Msgr. and he will give it to Kathy, who will give me cash or a check to send the boxes.? It costs $33 to $35 for each cargo box. ? ?? ? On my recent trip, I found out that the books are much appreciated. ? ? ? Thanks. ? Bob Armbruster 201-387-2977 ? ? ? P.S.? If any of you have connections with parishes or schools -- especially in New York -- that are closing, they would probably be happy to donate books.?
