[Troop139] Jamboree On The Air 2014 with Troop 139 and Venture Crew 7373 at St. John's in Bergenfield

Hi Folks!

Enclosed is the first of three photos from our Scouting Jamboree On The Air 2014 (JOTA 2014) station at St. John’s in Bergenfield.  Troop 139/Venture Crew 7373 under the guidance of Gordon Beattie (Amateur Radio Callsign W2TTT) the boys got to operate radio equipment and carry out conversations with stations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Georgia, New York and New Jersey.  The boys used readily available, low cost VHF/UHF radios as well as a state of the art Software Defined Radio on the “shortwave” or “High Frequency” (HF) bands.  This provided the Scouts with an ideal opportunity to visually see and understand the characteristics of a station’s signal strength, type or mode and frequency on a graphical, computer generate spectral display.   

 

Boy Scouts from Troop 139 attended along with Cubs from Pack 123 in Dumont and Pack 111 in Harrington Park.  Brandon and Bryan from Troop 139 are shown in the enclosed photo with Ben and Brian from Pack 123.
