Randy,
Got it! Welcome to the HSMM-MESH group!

We are a bunch of guys, mostly from Bergen and Passaic counties who are
developing gear to build out an alternative backbone network to augment,
extend or replace the Internet for both the technical challenge and for the
benefit of the public by applying these technologies to assist the Red
Cross, and Passaic or Bergen RACES, ARES and CERT. The BARA Tech Net on
Thursday nights and the weekly Fair Lawn Radio Club meetings are key
opportunities for advancing the cause, but the meetings of the other groups
are also good opportunities to meet and possible work on things as well.

We are really glad that you are interested in these projects!

There is much to be done and collaboration is going to be key to getting the
maximum done over time. Do you have a HSMM-MESH node or two? If you would
like, I can lend you a couple until you can acquire some of your own.
Everything that we are doing is being worked to operate from a nominal 12
VDC power source using Anderson PowerPole connectors. For example, the IP
camera and the Raspberry Pi both use 5 VDC so we are using standard and high
power (3.1 A) 12 VDC car adapters that have been reworked with a 12 VDC
pigtail.

Now I have a built up a box that has an IP camera, an HSMM-MESH gateway
router, that is interfaces to a Cradlepoint MBR-1000 router that provides a
USB port for the 4G LTE modem. There is also a Raspberry Pi in the box for
support services such as configuration monitoring and video or VoIP servers.

That needs to be built out with functional software.

My current challenge is to get the users on the Cradlepoint's WiFi or
Ethernet ports to access resources on the HSMM-MESH network. A user port on
the Cradlepoint is connected to the WAN port of the HSMM-MESH node. I
configured the Cradlepoint to route 10.x.x.x traffic to the IP address
192.168.0.199 assigned to the port that is connected to the HSMM-MESH
router.
I cannot access resources on the 10.x.x.x network either specifically or in
general. I am able to do a tracert and see the path to the HSMM-MESH
address. I can also ping successfully to a 10.x.x.x address. I am
wondering what I am missing?

Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT

Gordon,
I sent this by mistake to ARRL first instead of ATT.

Hi Gordon,
It's been nice to reconnect with you recently. I hope to meet up with
you and more local experimenters soon.

Two recent items of note:
1. MIT Technology Review article on FCC comments about ad hoc networks

http://www.technologyreview.com/view/515781/former-fcc-chairman-lets-test-an
-emergency-ad-hoc-network-in-boston/
2. Gary Pearce KN4AQ video interview with Mel Whitten K0PFX and Bruce
Perens K6BP about digital voice and open source. Fascinating!

73,
Randy WU2S
