Hi Folks!
As I will be away this week and until mid-week at camp, here are a couple of
reminders for the Scouts and adults:
Next week at the Troop meeting:
Make Patrols of the Scouts going to camp.
Figure out and sign up for the merit badges that you are taking.
Collect three copies of signed medical forms for all Scouts and adults going
to camp.
(I will bring mine with me when I arrive at camp on Tuesday or Wednesday.)
Mrs. Dewey will distribute orange T-shirts and collect all outstanding funds
for camp and back dues.
Troop Gear Packing:
2 Stoves and two full cook kits including utensils
Lanterns and mantles for the campsite
At least two tarps and rope for additional shelter in the campsite
A cooler for non-smellable items that need to be kept cold
2 or 3 Orange water jugs
Woods tools including sharp axes and bow saws
Extra rope and tarps for projects such as the gateway
American and Troop Flags - you might want to bring additional flags and
banners as they make the gateway attractive
First Aid Kit
Personal Gear Packing:
Full Scout Uniform on arrival to St. John's including Scout
socks (NO ANKLE SOCKS - they just give you blisters)
Swim suit and towel at the ready for the swim test that EVERYONE
takes when they go to camp.
Rain gear should be accessible at all times
Non-aerosol bug spray and sun block
Paper, pens and pencils and a way to keep things dry
Normal camping stuff, though you can go a little heavy as we are
"site camping" for the week.
A smile! :-) You are after all, going to camp! :-)
On Sunday (NEXT WEEK):
Eat breakfast and pack a lunch
All Scouts need to be at St. John's at 8:00 AM to meet Mr. Carlos, Mr. San
Juan and any other adults who are going to camp.
Finalize travel arrangements and load up the vehicles with the gear
collected on Tuesday as well as with personal gear
Go to 9:00 AM Mass as a Troop and ask Almighty God for the blessings of a
for a fun and safe week at camp! :-)
Depart from St. John's after Mass and head to camp.
When you get to camp, the SPL or Mr. Carlos needs to request two Sheepherder
stoves.
Plan to cook some lunches and dinners in site. Just coordinate
with the cook and check the weather forecast!
I will bring up any additional things including ceremonial items needed for
Friday afternoon's Troop ceremony, when I come up to camp.
Just let me know if you need anything else and I will do what I can to get
it there.
With so many boys having gone to Jamboree and going to camp, their
leadership and expertise should make for a great time for all going to Camp
Turrell this summer! Have fun getting ready for camp and enjoy the
experience!
Yours in Scouting!
Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT
