Hi Folks!
We will be going over winter camping preparations and clothing for our trip
which is scheduled for 2/15/-2/17 at Camp NoBeBoSco.
Next week we will pack and load my van for the trip. Next week we will also
do meal planning after I coordinate with Mr. Rich Daly for the Scout
cooking. Specific program activities for Saturday morning will be set up
next week as well once I hear from Mr. Tony Cetera, the Pack 139 Cubmaster.
As always, we can anticipate hiking a bit while at Camp NobeBoSco, but we
will also need to develop additional plans should the weather become an
issue. PLEASE SIGN UP THIS WEEK FOR THIS TRIP, so that we can plan
appropriately.
We still need parents to sign up to attend the trip to Camp NoBeBoSco.
Currently, only Mr. Adrian Miller, Mr. Gurz Gungil and I have signed up.
Mrs. Diana Valencia and Ms. Cristofoletti have volunteered to drive on
Friday only
This Saturday is the Red Cross First Aid and CPR course in Clifton. We will
meet at St. John's at 7:00 AM to car pool. We need drivers for this event.
The Troop will be paying for those attending, so tonight is the DEADLINE for
signing up. This will allow a Scout to progress in their First Aid rank and
Merit Badge Requirements and also help make the Troop activities safer by
having then Scouts and adults trained and certified.
Sunday is Scout Sunday in Newark and we need fully uniformed Scouts to be in
attendance. We will be meeting at 1:30 at St. John's to caravan/ car pool
there. Our Troop is receiving the Pope Pius XII Unit Award and we will need
Scouts attend to receive it and to handle our Troop flag during the
procession in the Cathedral.
I would like to thank our Senior Patrol Leader Kofi Acquaisie for helping
with the snow shoveling on Sunday morning at St. John's.
It made possible safe access to the Church, Rectory, Parish Life Center,
School and Conlon Hall for Masses and Religious Education on Sunday.
For future reference, if you think you might need to shovel your walk at
home, you should reach out to Kofi or to me to determine whether and when we
will be shoveling at St. John's. As a Scout you are expected to be aware,
to lead, to be proactive and to make things happen. Kofi should not have
been the only Scout there and both Scouts and parents should keep this in
mind. To be frank, this is not our first snow storm, it was not a surprise
and we know what may be required of us when it snows depending on the timing
of the snowfall. Please look at yourself and examine your conscience, so
that next time we are in a better position to respond to this need.
Next Tuesday, Arslan Gungil will have his Eagle Board of Review here at St.
John's at 7:30 PM. This promises to be a great day for both Arslan, his
family and our Troop and I look forward to congratulating him after the
Board meets!
I would like to thank Mrs. Diana Valencia and to Asst. Scoutmaster Arslan
Gungil for taking the time to attend the classroom portion of the
Scoutmaster/Asst. Scoutmaster Training last Saturday. This training helps
make our Troop a stronger, more effective Troop for the Scouts and
streamlines communications for those coordinating activities for the Scouts.
This training is available as weekend training (Indoor and Outdoor) or as a
complete package at Summer Camp. All Troop adults are encouraged to
participate. Thank you both for attending!
