Subject: [Troop139] Weboree Recap and Troop 139 Notes 20130428
Hi Folks!
Our young men received many compliments for their setup and presentations
this weekend at the Weboree.
We also were asked to gather a HUGE amount of LARGE timber from the woods
for the campfire which was done with a great deal of zeal and levity! They
really made us proud!
During Mass on Saturday evening, Beno did the second reading and later Beno,
Kevin and several other Scouts did some skits!
All had a good chuckle!
On Sunday morning we had some issues of supervision with parents leaving
without prior notice. Several had made prior arrangements regarding First
Holy Communion, but that didn't explain the sudden egress of other Scouts
and adults. Once again we were only left with adults named, "Beattie" to
pack and supervise the remaining Scouts. This cannot continue. Someone
else will need to take responsibility to obtain and track all adult and
Scout plans for activity supervision and transportation. I would, but far
too many give me sudden excuses and I am expected to be universally
understanding and accepting. Perhaps if it comes from a fellow parent,
there will be more accountability?
Important point: Please check your sons for bit marks, rashes and ticks
over the next couple of days. If you see anything unusual, please let me
know, as you may need to consult a physician depending on the specific
nature of the bite or tick.
As a reminder, we will need signups for competent and available adults to
manage the trip in the beginning of June for Charlie Dewey's Eagle project
and also adults not named "Daly", "Beattie" or "Gungil" for the trip with
the Cub Pack to Campgaw Reservation on the fourth weekend of June. The
signups from last week's parent meeting were decidedly unresponsive. I hope
that someone will take the lead for these trips. In the case of Charlie's
Project trip, we are going to need a BSA Tour Plan (Permit) with
appropriately credentialed adults listed on the form.
To be clear, neither Mr. Gungil or Mr. Beattie will be available for these
two trips due to prior commitments, so other competent adults will need to
engage themselves in these trips.
Further, we had several "no shows" without explanation. Troop policy is for
required reimbursement for unexplained absences from events where the Scout
signed up and was expected. Please see Mrs. Dewey regarding your fees from
this weekend which the Troop paid.
Tuesday's meeting will be run by Mr. Siebert and Mrs. Beattie. The other
adults, (including me) need to be in the Parish Life Center at 6:30 PM for
the Protecting God's Children Course.
