Fred,
We have a small team of five consisting of Jim Cooper W2JC, plus Boy Scout
Troop 139/Venture Crew 7373 members Nancy Beattie N2FWI, Gordon Beattie
W2TTT, Charlie Dewey KC2VBR and Jeanne Dewey heading to the shelter at
Bergen Community College for the overnight period starting at 8:00 PM
tonight (10/31/2012.
We would like relief at about 8:00 AM tomorrow. If you can arrange for some
ARC volunteers for that timeframe, that would be great.
The Red Cross should plan to have folks present in force during the daytime
and evening periods as much as possible. Det. Petry and Ron Bosco can also
reach out for additional CERT volunteers, but they are juggling multiple
shelter requirements within the county. I think it may be more important
to have the Scouts/Venturers provide overnight support if needed.
For tonight, our plan is to have two or three will run the pet shelter there
and the others will monitor the communications post and assist with overall
shelter needs as required.
As four of us have Amateur Radio licenses and will be using the 146.79
repeater (PL 141.3 Hz, -600 kHz). The physical scope of the facility makes
internal communications as important as external.
I am hoping to have at least one external operator off-site to monitor needs
from the shelter. We could not reach 146.895 from the shelter site the
other day, but we will try an improved antenna setup and see if it works
sometime late tonight. If the phones work, try my cell, below.
Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT

Hi Fred,
I am making phone calls for Sherry Clain trying to staff the shelters for
Bergen and Passaic Counties through the weekend. We are getting desperate
for a few workers so I was hoping you might put out a plea to the ARC2
members that any time they might have available for regular old shelter work
in between their other duties would be greatly appreciated. They can email
me or call my cell (973-223-5951) if they can help out.
Thanks!
Laurie
