Hi Folks!
There are plans to open shelters here in Bergen County if the situation
dictates. The key shelter location is Bergen Community College, but other
sites may be opened as well.
The target timeframe would be starting on Monday and I will let you know if
we are being requested to assist with setting up and staffing the shelter.
Please let me know if you are going to be available on Monday or Tuesday
during the day or at night, especially overnight.
CERT-trained personnel are key, but with supervision, others may be helpful
as well.
Obviously, if you have an Amateur Radio license, then you are going to be
needed as well to facilitate communications around the various shelter areas
and also to and from the shelter with outside locations.
In the meantime, please follow up on making sure that your family is
prepared and reach out to other members of the Troop if you have a need.
Don't wait until a crisis emerges. My previous email is below in case you
need to review it.
Yours in Scouting!
Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT

Subject: Hurricane Sandy
Hi Folks!
We are expecting high winds and about six inches of rainfall during the
Monday evening/Tuesday period. Flooding in our areas usually starts at
about 4-5 inches.
The Tappan-Oradell Reservoir is going to be partially drained in advance of
the storm, which will raise water levels, especially at high tides on the
Hackensack River. Last time this was done, we had flooding in New Milford
that cut power and also impacted some cellular services in the corridor
between Old Hook Rd. and New Bridge Landing.
Just a few quick points:
1. Prepare yourself and your family for possible power loss, wind
damage and flooding during the next few days.
2. If you need assistance REACH OUT and call, text, email or WALK to a
neighbor or to another member of the Troop family to get it.
3. Among the Troop member families we have tools, generators, pumps,
vehicles and expertise to help people who need it.
NONE of this is possible without using your God-given gifts to prepare
yourself and your family.
* Have water, food, batteries for key devices such as lighting, radio
and communications and other necessities at the ready.
* Charge up your tools as well as your phones and entertainment
devices.
* Make sure that your gas grill has propane
* Make sure that you have the means to care for all your pets.
* Make sure that your medications are at hand and that you have an
adequate supply.
* Check on elderly neighbors to make sure that they are prepared.
God bless!
Yours in Scouting!
