Hi Folks,
Our newsletter in the recent St. John's bulletin, has yielded three
inquiries to join either the Troop or Pack. This is exciting! Let's think
about what will be done and written for the June edition!
We have a couple of key items to work on this week at our meeting:
1. Cooking requirements to be done by our new Scouts, Nicholas and
Kojo, guided by our experienced Scouts. Use supplies from the Troop Patrol
boxes determined on the fly. It is good practice for learning how to
improvise. To complete this task, groups of Scouts will locate supplies
and tools, write a menu and bring it to the adults for review before
proceeding with the cooking on during the meeting.
2. We will have at least one additional new Scout at our meeting on
Tuesday who will need to be brought into the Troop and helped with basic
joining requirements.
3. Summer camp confirmation is 7/29 SUNDAY to 8/4 SATURDAY at Camp
Turrell. We need to confirm attendance and start to plan merit badges. We
are also going to have leadership elections over the next few weeks and need
to ensure that the Troop leaders know their responsibilities and tasks. If
there are specific issues related to non-attendance at summer camp, please
bring that to Mr. Beattie's attention in a direct email.
4. The Adirondack trip will be on 6/26 - 6/30 (unless I can move it
back one day) or 7/23 - 7/27. I will need at least one additional adult to
drive this trip depending on interest. Costs for this trip are dependent
on interest, participation and activities. All Scouts are welcome to
participate in this high adventure week in the North Country. Possible
activities include canoeing, swimming, hiking, backpacking, nature study,
native American study, conservation work, camping, cooking and a few
surprises and some customary North Country fun as well! We'll craft a merit
badge program around what activities are selected by those expressing
interest.
A KEY POINT HERE: This is an opportunity for fun and merit badges in an
environment that is more open than normally done at camp.
Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT
