Hi Folks!
This is an excellent opportunity FOR ALL OUR TROOP 139 SCOUTS and parents to
learn more about Autism.
The Troop will be meeting at 7:00 PM in the Dumont High School Auditorium,
but if the evening is inconvenient,
you may attend the AFTERNOON session from 4:00-5:30 PM.
Please let me know if you intend to attend in the afternoon instead of the
evening session, so that I can record your participation.
Remember to wear your Class A Scout uniform.
We will be discussing both the Lincoln movie and the Autism training on
Tuesday night at the Troop meeting at 7:00 PM in the basement of St. Johns.
We will also be finalizing advancement before next week's Court of Honor
prior to Christmas.
Yours in Scouting!
Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT

Subject: CERT Training - Autism
Hi Everyone.
I hope you are well and getting ready for the holidays. We have one last
in-service class if anyone is interested.
Lt. Michael Conner from the Dumont Police Department is hosting a FREE
Autism Training for Police. The training will take place on Monday,
December 10th in the Dumont High School Auditorium located at 101 New
Milford Avenue from either 4:00pm to 5:30pm or 7:00pm to 8:30pm. (You only
need to attend 1 session) Members of the Law Enforcement community (Police
Officers, Dispatchers and Volunteer Officers) are all welcome. YOU DO NOT
HAVE TO BE A CERT MEMBER TO ATTEND.
Autism training will:
* Make you aware of the condition of autism, its symptoms, and the
characteristics commonly seen in individuals who are affected.
* Provide information to enhance better recognition of a person with
autism and response methods for officers in field situations.
* Identify public safety risks for people who have autism,
predictable contacts and 911 dispatches.
* Explain the problems that a higher functioning person with autism
may have in criminal justice situations.
* Provide you with behavioral de-escalation techniques and
restraint.
* Provide methods for you to proactively work with individuals with
autism, their families, and advocacy organizations and apply tolerance and
public relations skills when doing so.
This workshop is offered free of charge from POAC Autism Services. For more
information: please contact Lt. Michael J. Conner from the Dumont Police
Department at 201-387-5013.
There is no maximum class size but if you would like to let Lt. Conner know
you are interested in this class, please send him an email at
mconner at dumontpolice.org.
Thank you for all you do.
Gidge
