Hi Folks!

As we discussed on Tuesday night, the training link from the Northern New
Jersey Council's web site is

http://www.nnjbsa.org/openrosters/ViewOrgPageLink.asp?LinkKey=28397
<http://www.nnjbsa.org/openrosters/ViewOrgPageLink.asp?LinkKey=28397&orgkey=
945> &orgkey=945

The training helps explain much of what we do in the Scouting program with
the boys. It provides some insights to what being a Scout is about and why
it has value that makes it special. After taking the basic courses, you
will find yourself more prepared to encourage your son and your son's
friends and parents to participate in Scouting, too!

Please examine the course descriptions found at
http://www.nnjbsa.org/openrosters/ViewOrgPageLink.asp?LinkKey=28399

If you have any questions, please let me know. (BTW: There are also courses
for Cub Scout and Venturing parents there as well.

Every parent should plan to take the online courses "Fast Start", "This is
Scouting" and "Youth Protection".

If you take these courses, and have a BSA ID number, please enter your ID
number.

In any case, print out your completion certificates and provide them to
either Diana Valencia or me.

Merit Badge Counseling and Troop Committee courses are also good next steps
for online training.

To become a trained Boy Scout Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster, there are
two additional courses:

1. Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster classroom course, and

2. Outdoor Skills which is a weekend camping course

Each of these are offered periodically.

Right now, we only have two trained Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmasters and
they are Nancy and me.

In order to recharter in the future, we will be required to have trained
leadership for each of the appropriate Scoutmaster Corps and Committee
positions. Much of this is already required for Quality Unit Certification,
something which after 70 years, we should not fail to achieve.

As a final note,

Yours in Scouting!
Thanks & 73,

Gordon Beattie, W2TTT
