Hi Folks!
Here is the BSA Campership form that can be found at this link:
http://www.doubleknot.com/openrosters/DocDownload.aspx?orgkey=453
<http://www.doubleknot.com/openrosters/DocDownload.aspx?orgkey=453&id=91688>
&id=91688 or as an attachment to this email
Please fill them out and bring them to the Troop meeting THIS TUESDAY. We
need to collect them and get them into the hands of the Council on March 15,
which can be done with your cooperation.
If you have questions about it, or if you might qualify, please let me know
and we can help you make a determination. The objective is to get every
Scout to camp. Finances are never a reason for not going to camp.
Dates for Camp Turrell are Sunday, July 31st to Saturday, August 6th.
The fee is $330 for the week.
Our new Scouts, the former Webelos IIs in Mr. Curtin's Den should pay close
attention to this as this may be your first time through this process. The
Troop will do whatever it can to help any boy go to camp, so do not dismiss
this opportunity and make it more of a challenge to get it done.
Also, Webelos in Mr. Cetera's Den who are bridging next year are welcome to
come to camp as well. This is a great opportunity for the younger boys to
take the First Year Camper program and learn many necessary skills required
for advancement once they bridge over. Again, we hope that as many will
come as possible and not discount the opportunity due to financial or other
reasons that can easily be addressed.
We are also looking for adults to go to camp for all or part of the week.
Please consider doing so. If interested, then let me know and we will do
our best to get you trained and ready for what will be an amazing week with
the Troop.
We are interested in going to Floodwood this summer. We will need to get
together and plan accordingly for a trek in the first few weeks of the
season in either late June or the first half of July. One key requirement
is that we will need adults to go with us for the week and that we may need
adults to drive either up or back. Please note that in 2009, work
requirements almost trashed this trip, but instead Mr. & Mrs. Villaluna did
two round trips on successive weekends so that seven Scouts could go on this
amazing trip near the Canadian border! As a result, we had to draw on a
staffer for the required two-deep leadership at all times during the week,
which is something that we should really avoid.
Please note that Floodwood is an opportunity for 13 year old and older
Scouts at the time of our trip. Wished it was not the case, but I don't
make the rules.sigh.
If you are interested in doing both camps this summer, then there are a
couple of things to remember:
1. If you are requesting a campership, then it should be requested for
Floodwood, because they are given as a percentage of the higher fee.
2. If a Scout is going to both Floodwood and to Turrell, then the fee
for Turrell is cut in half as part of an incentive to get more Scouts to
camp.
I really hope that we can do these amazing things this summer and I look
forward to your son's participation and to your support for the effort in
whatever form it takes!
Yours in Scouting!
Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT

2011 CAMPERSHIP FUND
The Northern New Jersey Council Campership Fund was established to assist
Scouts who, without financial assistance, would not be able to attend camp.
We sincerely believe that all Scouts need an outdoor experience to grow in
the Scouting program. The funds used for the Camperships are raised through
various sources including the Northern New Jersey Council Campership
Reception and through the hard work of the members of Lenapehoking Lodge IX,
and Order of the Arrow. It is for this reason we ask that only those with
true needs apply for a Campership.
