Hi Folks!
Merry Christmas!
We will be conducting one-day courses for those who would like to upgrade
their licenses to the General Class Amateur Radio Operator License or for
those who would like to earn their Technician Class License on Friday,
December 30th in the Lower Church of St. John's in Bergenfield.
Anyone is welcome to attend, though we do ask non-Troop 139 Scouts/family
members for a donation of $20 to help fund Troop 139 and Venture Crew 7373's
Amateur Radio activities and to offset the costs of provided food and
snacks.
We will also have a free drawing for some useful Amateur Radio gifts for
those who attend a course!
RSVP ASAP if you are planning to attend
If you are unable to take the course, but would like to take the test for
the Technician, General or Extra Class Amateur Radio Licenses, please RSVP
and be on site by 7:00 PM with the materials noted below.
Details
Why?
* Amateur Radio is a wonderful FCC licensed service which provides an
individual with the ability to communicate on a wide variety of frequencies
and in a broad number of modes. There is the excitement communicating with
others using equipment set up and integrated by the individual Amateur Radio
operator.
* Many Troop 139 and Venture Crew 7373 activities leverage the
capabilities of the operator including service projects and events,
operating activities, experimentation and building and just plain
communicating for FUN!
* Upgrading from the Technician Class License to the General Class
allows an operator to use HF or shortwave radio to communicate wirelessly
all over the world in real-time without the help of networks.
* Knowledge of many subject areas is expanded through Amateur Radio,
making one more versatile and interesting in a broad range of areas.
* No matter how you approach it, there is FUN to be had!
