I recieved 2 reports this AM from Chuck, K0VXM. He has been listening (From near Cape Canaveral, Mid-East coast of Florida) toward EU for a few days now.

Mark,
Around 1045 Z I heard 3 separate bursts of CW on 144.300. Was pointed at CT and CU. Tough copy because they were short lived a bit faster than I can easily read plus had some intermittent line noise.
Don't know what it was but it sure got my heart started!

In the second report , Chuck said he hoped it wasn't backscatter from the states.

I think the backscatter is unlikely. I don't know anyone other than a beacon or station trying for 2m TransAtlantic that would be operating CW on 144.300. There are a few op's in the Northeast US that occasionaly use 144.300-370 for simplex FM and USB, but not CW

K4MHZ has a beacon at Cape Hatteras, FM25, which is on 144.300, which could have been it. But I don't remember what speed the ID is.

A burst from EU to US is certainly possible with the condx available this AM. At 6:45 AM--maybe a meteor along the path + tropo?.

Good work Chuck!
