[TransAtlantic] MUF at 90 MHz

During the June 19 2M Es here in the US there were three contacts made that
may be double hop. From TN to DO21 in VE6 is 2900+ km and two from DN70/DM69
deep into FL were at 2700+ km. So it happens. But it is exceedingly rare in
the US - less than a dozen and maybe much less than a dozen ever reported.
In Europe it is more common - usually once or twice a summer from central or
Eastern Europe to EA8 or rarely from Spain to the middle East.
So it is possible but probably very very unlikely that two E clouds could
line up far enough north to support US-Europe on 2M. As Joe says later
communication is important because if such a path exists it will not be
there except for a few minutes.
Tropo is still the best bet. And probably from the Caribbean from some
mountaintop to the Iberian peninsula rather than from the US. However
conditions in 1957-59 did exist in August of those years for a possible
contact but they have not as far as I know ever returned.

This morning about 8-10am the MUF went above 90MHz here in FN32sb
(massachusetts,usa).
I've been watching for propagation this e-skip season.
DF5AI and DK5YA have a lengthy paper on long distance 144MHz on DF5AI's
website. In the paper they discuss theory about the propagation mode(s) of
3500km+ QSO's during May-June-July of 2003.
The possibility of double-hop (or extended hop)2m e-skip, 2m e-skip combined
with tropo and various propagation types are discussed.
Any comments on the possibility that double-hop 2m e-skip, or 2m
e-skip+tropo is possible, or some type of propagation combining e-skip,
tropospheric or ionospheric bending, ducting, or tropo-scatter, or any other
type of propagation might lead to a contact between Europe and North
America?
