"The Times Atlas of the Oceans", 1983, just arrived here.
In addition to the text comments (Iceland/Europe & Canada/Greenland), the Brendan Awards rules refer to pgs. 222-223 for the definition of the continental shelf.
The Azores, Bermuda, and the Madiera, Canary, Cape Verde Islands, and the Noronha, St. Peter & St. Paul, Rocas, Trinidade & Martim Vas islands off Brazil ARE NOT within the continental shelves of Europe or North or South America.
Rockall, the Faeroes, Hebrides, Orkneys, Shetlands, Sable Island, and all of the West Indies (Bahamas, Cuba, Puerto Rico etc . all the way down to Trinidad & Tobago) ARE all within the shelves.
This clears it up for me, but you all don't have pages 222-223 in front of you.
An official list, like this above, from the IRTS, would be sincerely appreciated.
