[Tower-Speak] Query: Cutting a steel mast

A friend of mine was recently given a chromoly steel mast 17' long.  
That is really too long for his purposes.
He'd like to cut it in half and asked me to help.

The mast is 2" o.d. and .25" thick wall--a real beast.  I have no idea 
how to cut such a thing or whether it
can sensibly be cut at all outside of a machine shop.  If you have had 
any experience with this sort of thing
I'd sure appreciate any advice you can give.  The mast surely is too 
good to waste.
