[Tower-Speak] One-Man Towers

Dave,
I would avoid welding it unless you have super good ventalation.
Galvanized metal when it reaches about 1000 degrees or so releases PHOSGENE gas....also
known as mustard gas. Not a good thing to inhale. Just ask the Veterans who fought in Europe (WWI).
Secondly I would drill a small weep hole on each of the legs so that water drains out.
I imagine your base section is set in concrete and there is no drainage underneath (layer of gravel).

Unless the split is very large you are more than likely okay...especially if the tower is well guyed.
I would dress the exposed metal and put a good coat of rust-oleum paint on it to prevent rusting.

I have a question for the group.

I have a section of Rohn 25 that has split (due to freezing water)
about 6 inches up from ground level. Anyone know a way I can
strengthen this leg without having to take the whole thing down (nine
sections, 3 antennas and a dipole)?

The thing seems to be very stable right now and has shown no signs of
being in trouble. The tower itself is very well guyed.

Any advice will be appreciated.
