You might be better off walking away from this "deal". The surface rust is
not a problem if it is ONLY surface rust. If it is deeper then you risk a
ruptured section which might allow the tower above to come down much more
quickly than you had planned. I would really be worried about the "kink" in
the tower you describe. You might be able to support it with guy wires or
not.
If you do risk it, make sure the guy (not guide)wires are properly tensioned
so they actually support the tower(s). Once that is done then you can climb
up with a set of temporary guys and attach them to the section under the top
section. Remove the top section using a Tower Jack as seen in QST. I have
one and highly recommend it for seperating tower sections. Lower the
unbolted section to your ground crew of 3-5 people who can follow
instructions. Repeat as necessary...

Subject: [Tower-Speak] help !!!
hello to all
this is my first post so I wall start by thanking you all for stopping by
wonder if any one can help ???
Some one gave me 2 ROHN 25 tower in Brandon, Florida
the problem is that, the towers are still erected 160 & 190Ft, there are no
tilt over's and no crank just a solid tower bolted together as far as I can
tell, the guy that own's the land is selling the land and needs the towers
removed and therefore, I found out about this from another ham who told me
about the towers.
I have asked another ham who has good tower experience and bought him to the
site, he and I checked out the towers and seam to be in good shape, apart
from one of the towers around 3/4 of the way up has suffice rust
and the other tower has a Kink in it due to the guide lines/cables being
neglected and not looked after
so the glide cables are lose.
can anybody help ?
we need to take them down
This would be our first tower we have ever owned and would like to put it up
our QTH as we have a lot of trees around us and we need to get over them and
so we thought this might be a good opportunity
