I've been scouring the google news searches for information on how ham radio
is helping in the recovery efforts. All you need to do is go to
http://news.google.com and type in "amateur radio" or "ham radio" in the
search. So far I've seen well over 200 "hits" for the results in the past
week. Newspapers, TV, and radio stations alike are all showing how ham
radio in their area is contributing.

So far, I've only seen two (2) from all of Tennessee:

http://www.wreg.com/Global/story.asp?S=3803993 - When Normal Lines of
Communications Fail...Amateur Radio Works (WREG-TV)
http://www.newschannel5.com/content/katrina/14147.asp - Amateur Radio
Operators Helping In Recovery Effort (WTVF TV)

I think it would be beneficial if people reading this contact their local
club or emergency service and tell them they NEED to contact the local TV
stations, newspapers, and radio stations and let them know how Tennesseeans
are connecting to the gulf. The media eats this kind of stuff up, and most
certainly they will give 30 to 90 seconds of air time (3-5 columns for a
newspaper) just to show that there is a connection to the disaster in the
gulf.

Contact those who are assisting, and try to connect them to their local
media outlets, from the TV stations to the farm report, they need to get the
word out, like we did during September 11, 2001, that ham radio is there!

PS: If there is an article or story posted by the local media stations,
please post it here!
