Subject: Winlink 2000 seminar

David
Anderson County ARES is sponsoring this event. It will be on Saturday June
5th at 10:00am. We are going to have Steve Waterman,K4CJX to speak on Win
2000 (WL2K). Steve is one of the creators of WL2K. In simple terms WL2K is
an email replacement protocol. It's use is as simple as logging off one
"server" and logging in to another. It is that simple for the end user. It
uses amateur radio to send and receive email. As I understand it if the
internet were to go down say here in east TN, you could use WL2K to send
email to anywhere in the world. It uses a system of packet type modes to
send secure data point to point. It even connects back to the internet at
another location. It uses HF, VHF and UHF depending on your level of use.
ARES is going to this as one of it's primary digital modes to send secure
information once the network in TN is established.
WL2K is being used as we speak world wide.
As I told you earlier the location is still up in the air due to the
potential size of this event. I hope to have it confirmed early this week.
