Ham radio operators aid emergency teams, others
By Marti Davis, News-Sentinel staff writer
November 12, 2002
As violent winds twisted and tore through East Tennessee on Sunday night,
they ripped through telephone lines and wiped out cell phones almost
instantly.

almost seamless switch from assisting the National Weather Service in
weather reporting to communicating on behalf of emergency rescue teams,
volunteers and many others.
