From rhall987 at robhall.org Thu Apr 2 00:28:51 2020 From: rhall987 at robhall.org (Robert Hall) Date: Thu, 2 Apr 2020 00:28:51 -0400 Subject: [TMRA] 147.27 250.3pl Link Receiver status Message-ID: Hi all, Just a note to inform everyone that the link receiver from the downtown site (the 250.3 pl access) has been temporarily disabled. It will likely be a while before it gets restored (read on below). Earlier today our tech committee located the source of the interfering signal to our link system which appears to be coming from a transformer on a utility pole right next to the UT campus (just NW of campus). That signal was occassionally holding our link receiver open (causing time-outs). We are reporting the issue to get it corrected and will let everyone know when the electric company has resolved the issue and the link receiver is active once again. Our appologies for any inconvenience for those that routinely use the link to access 147.27 from the east. I won't be interactive via zoom, but at least you can see how it works as we may utilize this in the future for meetings as well. However, our April TMRA General Meeting with be an "operate from home" NET style on 147.27 or 442.850 this Wednesday 08Apr2020. Please join us from home this month. This isn't a typical style/format for us, so please bear with us. :) Starting next month (May meeting), we may begin to offer a pre-net program/presentation via zoom / Zoom.us if you can familiarize yourself (see below). However, this month, we will go directly to business items and check-ins to settle into a new format. While operating remotely for these TMRA General Meetings, we will provide an opportunity to "see" those that you are talking to by having an active Zoom.us meeting active so that our members can begin to get familiar with it. You can go to the website or join on your tablet or phone using the Zoom App. You will need to "join meeting" with the Code 208-277-916 and Password 016397. We ask that you stay muted during the net, but feel free to stick around after the on-air net to chat. Enjoy the opportunity to see the shacks of other members using this tool. :) We will also be using "netlogger" software to track logins and comments if you'd like to follow along there. Feel free to use chat in either application during the net. "Talk to you" Wednesday. :) Rob- KV8P -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Please join us for some updates. A few reminders: I will be again running a *Zoom.us (website on PC or via the zoom app on your phone) *session for us to be able to see each-other. In the app ( website ) choose join meeting and enter Meeting ID: 208-277-916 and password 016397 to join. Many of us will be running webcams. Please mute your audio until the net is complete. (I will not be able to hear you during the net until after the on-the-air net is complete). Feel free to utilize the "chat" feature during the net, however. Also, I plan to run the net on *"netlogger" software *(available at netlogger.org). You can choose and follow along with the net check-ins from that app if you wish. Lastly, just after the meeting (as of 9pm) we are starting a new VHF/UHF contest that you can participate in. This contest (NW Ohio COVID-19 Shut-in 2m/70cm Contest ) will run from April 8th - ? . The contest will end when large groups (greater than 100 people ) are again allowed to meet in Ohio. Hopefully this provides us one more fun item to do during this "stay at home" time. You do NOT need to be a TMRA member to participate (all are welcome to participate). For contest specifics and log sheet examples, please see http://tmrahamradio.org/covidcontest.pdf . Please consider looking up your senator and house representative and sending them the following letter. You can find their contact information via: http://www.ohiohouse.gov/members/district-map https://www.ohiosenate.gov/senators/district-map Hello, My name is NAME. I am a member of our local Toledo area 503-C non-profit organization of about 150 volunteer members called the Toledo Mobile Radio Association. Our group is a team of skilled volunteers, using Amateur Radio, that supports our local public service agencies, hospitals and many of the local marathons, parades, Air Show, etc. with critical 2-way radio communications when asked/needed each year. We often work from our vehicles and "on the move" for these events. I am writing about a current bill SB-285 (Anti-Texting Bill) that is currently being considered in Ohio. Since many of our events/operations are done from our vehicles (as it is in most areas of Ohio and throughout the country), there is some concern that this bill may not continue to properly exempt our FCC licensed Amateur Radio Operators within it, as other states have done, properly protecting our ability to use 2-way radios and microphones in our vehicles for local events. We are requesting your support with this as using hand-held microphones/radios for our events, and for our served agencies, is critical to the support function that we provide free of charge throughout each year. Thank you for your consideration and for representing FCC licensed Amateur Radio Operators when considering this bill. Regards, YOUR NAME ? There had been some discussion of a Truck Sales Event later in the Summer to replace this years Hamfest. After consideration and discussion by the TMRA Executive Committee, the concept was rejected and will NOT be occurring. Please see attached Message from Mike/W8MAL. Mike is the Hamfest Chairman. ===start==== At the April TMRA Executive Committee meeting, it was discussed and voted to not move forward with any trunk sales for the foreseeable future. With the restrictions in the State of Ohio, as well as the restrictions of our neighboring states, it was felt by the Club Leadership for safety's sake to not host any group gatherings of this nature. For those who may have questions or comments, please reach out to the TMRA Hamfest Chairman Michael Lacumsky, W8MAL, via email (w8mal at qsl.net) or via telephone at 419-707-7116. Thank you for your understanding. Michael Lacumsky W8MAL TMRA Hamfest Chairman ===end=== Thank you to those who brought the concept forward.
