All
Here is a message from ARRL Ohio Section Manager Scott Yonley about ARES Connect.
Anyone that has an event please be sure to email me the details and I will get it listed on Connect.
For those of you that are still unsure of the reasons behind Connect, I’ll direct you to the recent attack on the 2 Meter Band Allocation in UTC 1 bu the French.
The Information recorded on Ares Connect will help show that the Ham Community is active. The ICS 213 and ICS 205 forms that we create along with all our events add to the records of use. All of these items can be used to help defend the Spectrum Allocation.
If you have not signed up for ARES Connect, I encourage you to do so.

Regards
Brad/WB8RG

Here’s Scott’s Message

It seems as though the name "ARES Connect" is getting folks confused about what this system is supposed to be for.

I'm here today to tell you that it's to be used for ANY event that involves Amateur Radio. It's not just for ARES events!! It can be a RACES, CERT, Skywarn, Red Cross or just a few hams gathered at a table to talk about Amateur Radio and it counts, as long as Amateur Radio is part of the event. Club meetings, hamfests, working on that club trailer, website, or newsletter are perfect examples of hours that count and we've most likely not been counting them. Did you have Amateur Radio at your Field Day? Of course you did. Did you practice setting it up, operating or discussing how things worked with the general public during Field Day? Of course you did. It all counts.

Any Amateur Radio related activity should be an event in ARES Connect and your hours recorded.

Just because the name of this system has ARES in it, doesn't mean that we only record ARES events. If it involves Amateur Radio IN ANY WAY then it needs to have an event established and hours recorded for it.

Now, is it too late to get those valuable hours recorded if the event has already passed? Absolutely NOT.. Your Admins can setup events anytime and add you and your hours to that event.

I do hope that this message clears up the misunderstanding in the name "ARES Connect."

"ARES Connect" is to be used to record everything that you do that involves Amateur Radio in any way!

73,

Scott, N8SY..

PS>> If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask your EC, Stan or me. Know someone who isn't in the system yet? Let's get them in there NOW!!. We want no one left behind on this. Everyone has something to contribute!!!
