08/01/2018

 Hello all ,

There will be a SKYWARN meeting on Thursday at 7 pm at the 911 training center. The team will be continuing to work on the Net Scripts. See ARES section below for details.

If you have not already done so please consider signing up for one of the days of the Sylvania weekend. We still need help on Sunday. These events, while handled by Lucas County Ares do not require you to be active in Ares to help. The Ares events are an excellent way to give back and support the community. That’s the very foundation of what Ham Radio is all about.
Hope to see you on one of the courses over that weekend.

The Northwest Ohio Hospital Radio test will be this Saturday at 1300 local time. The Net will start on the 147.270 Repeater and then move around from that Point. See the ARES Section below for more information.

The TMRA Executive Board met last week. I was unable to attend but the report is that there are some new ideas coming in the near future. Be sure to keep an open ear for that.

There was a Fox Hunt last Saturday, I was not advised who the winner was, but Congratulations to that person or team. The next Fox Hunt will be announced in the near future.

The next TMRA Event will be the General Meeting in August, then the OHIO QSO Party followed by the Ohio Stare Parks on the Air Event. Information on all these events is included in this Email.

I apologize for the late release of this set of Announcements. I try to get them out over the weekend. I was unable to do that. Being as I am releasing this on Wednesday, and barring any unforeseen issues, this set of Announcements will be for this week and next week as well.

As a reminder Membership Dues were up for renewal on July First.

ANTENNA UPDATE AND LIFT PARTY INFO.

We now have the new Sinclair 146.835 (C4FM Digital Fusion Repeater) and the 442.750 (D-Star) antennas on top of the tall building downtown Toledo!  The Tower Maintenance Company did a great job accompanied by a few of our members to "get them lifted".  Big thanks for their efforts!

Now the fun part starts!

Sunday, July 29th at 7:30am - Weather dependent, we will be lifting the new D-Star Sinclair repeater antenna into place on the downtown building.  This will only take a team of 4-5 people to complete and should be relatively quick to accomplish.  If we complete the lift in short order (as I believe we can), we may also make our way over to the UT campus building roof to start erecting the new 224.140 antenna base (and quite possibly install the new 224.140 antenna).  Whatever doesn't get done will be scheduled for a date later in the fall.

Saturday, August 18th at 9am - Weather dependent, we will be lifting the new 146.835 Sinclair repeater antenna into place on the downtown building.  This is the exact same antenna as the 147.27 antenna that we just lifted (so many of you already know the "drill", as this will be quite similar...).  We'll be looking for a team of 10-11 people for that lift.

Please contact Rob (KV8P) at kv8p at kv8p.com if you can help!  Sign up to help if you can.

NEW DSTAR ANTENNA IS ON THE AIR

The new D-star antenna is in place.  Working good and near perfect match.  18w out of duplexers and a whopping 100mw reflected.  W8MAL, AA8HS, KD8WCD, K8EEE, N8APZ, KE8IJU and myself KV8P in the work party today.  Tom also drilled new holes for mounting and re-purposing the Super-stationmaster as the remote receive antenna here in a couple weeks.

-----
OHIO QSO PARTY
The Ohio QSO Party is on August 25th (12 Noon - Midnight) and will be held at Maumee Fire Station #2 in Maumee (just in front of the big blue water tower).  Park behind the building and come on in and join us!  This is a fun event as all of the other states try to talk to stations in Ohio!  It is also a good chance to familiarize yourself more with contesting (and to socialize with other TMRA members).

We'll start setting up before 10am on the 25th (we'll need help setting up please), and the contest starts at Noon and goes all day until midnight.  Well operate for the full 12 hour so long as there are operators that would like to "stay at it".  (if not, we'll break down early, no pressure)

We'll likely be operating both CW and SSB (the allowable modes for this event). You can contact a station 2x per band (once on CW and once on SSB).

We'll operate in the "multi-operator" category for the event.  We aren't limited on transmitters, so if you want to setup and run a station, we can accommodate 2 or 3 (only limited by our space).  Please let Rob (KV8P) know if you'd like to set up a station so that we can coordinate bands/antennas a bit.

For us (and other Ohio Stations), our multipliers are the 49 states (minus Ohio). Our exchange will be RS(T) and "Lucas" (county).

We'll be again using the N3FJP logging software for this event, therefore, we could use logging help as well, so stick around and help if you can!

We'll be sharing the operating time for this, so don't feel bad about asking, "Hey, do you mind if I sit down and give it a whirl?"  Most all of of us will gladly let you drive and log for you!

Look me up with any questions and we'll try to keep on ear on 147.27 at least during setup!

OHIO STATE PARKS ON THE AIR
>From Toby Hiteshew
KE8CZO

Sat Sept 8. 2018

Set up will begin at 07:30

The Event will run until 5:00 pm

This event, while geared towards newer Operators is open to anyone who wants to participate.

The Event is open to all Armatures as well as the Public.

It is encouraged that the newer hams handle the set up.  If you have not set up an event before, then this is your opportunity to learn to do so.

All Antennas will be free standing. This means that no Trees will be used to support Antennas. In fact we will be at Maumee Bay State Park in a completely open field. This affords us the opportunity to experiment with different Antennas.

If you have an antenna that you have made, or want to try, this is the perfect Event to give it a go.

We will be securing food from area vendors, If you wish to eat at this event you must pre-register. This allows us to know the number of folks we need to feed.

We will be operating under special event call-sign W8H. W8H is a provisional call-sign. This allows use of the entire Amateur Spectrum, including Extra Class. Any person can operate in any area of the Band, as long as there is a control Operator with the appropriate Privileges at, and in control of the Transceiver. This makes this the perfect Event for Technicians and Generals to try out the Extra Class Portions of the Bands. There will be plenty of Extra class Operators on hand at this Event.

This is a TMRA event, Participants will need to be a TMRA member in good standing to set up an antenna and station, however all are welcome to attend and participate.

We are in need of Elmers to be on hand to help setup and Guide the newer Operators.

If you wish to participate you are encouraged to contact Toby/KE8CZO. Toby will also be taking sign-up’s at the August TMRA General Meeting.

You can contact Toby at

Ke8czo at gmail.com

Please include your name ,cellphone and email address.
