(going more in depth than the class when/if needed) We'll discuss and help newer hams resolve some of the typical early ham radio challenges including (but not limited to) the following types of discussion items (no specific order); 1. Answer any early questions and discuss list of items that we all have soon after becoming a ham. (and worries that we each had) 2. Discuss Hand-held and mobile radio types / drawbacks and benefits. Who can help me program it? 3. What is needed to setup and use a mobile or "base" radio - in car or in home (and benefits and types). 4. Discuss Effective Radiated Power in terms of Antenna benefits - Discuss types of antennas indoor/outdoor options (and why). Horizontal vs. Vertical antennas. 5. Types of feed line and what you will need (and for what) - and where to find it. 6. VHF/UHF vs HF - Who can I talk to and when? 7. Discuss using local Repeaters, internet linked repeaters, PL Tones, (repeater book/radio reference),? 8 . Discuss Simplex vs Repeater typical etiquette (just so you know) - Examples: Q signals, calling CQ, breaks, etc. 9. First Contacts ? what to expect (most important, you won't be judged so don't "sweat it".... really...) 10. Hamfests + Ham Conventions.- Why bother? 11. Where should I buy equipment and what are the risks? 12. Useful websites 13. Foxhunting and Satellites - how/where? 14. Where to find manuals and information? 15. If there is time: Antenna Analyzers and SWR Meters - what are they and when do I need one? 16. If there is time: N vs PL-259, vs SMA, versus BNC connectors 17. Benefits of organizations/clubs 18. Foxhunts - what are they and how does it work? Do I need anything? 19. HF - club events (what can I participate with?) - Operating events. ----- MUSEUM SHIPS ON THE AIR WEEKEND June 2nd and 3rd 2018. The Antenna, a Tape Measure Yagi (2 Meter) is both effective and inexpensive to build. Used primarily for Fox Hunting this antenna can also be effective as a low power transmit antenna. The build will take place at the TMRA July 2018 Business Meeting. Rob has priced the kits and has offered two options. The Kits will include all parts needed to build the Antenna and the club will provide an analyzer to match and tune the completed projects. The price will be based on a minimum number of kits ordered. The antennas kits will be priced as follows Standard Kit = $20.00 Standard Kit plus Offset Attenuator = $ 70.00 Orders for the kits will need to be placed on or before the June General Business Meeting to assure pricing and allow ample time for shipping. Note : The offset Attenuator is not necessary to use this Antenna effectively, it also limits this Antenna to a receive Antenna only, as you cannot transmit through the Attenuator. ?---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ? The Antenna, a Tape Measure Yagi (2 Meter) is both effective and inexpensive to build. Used primarily for Fox Hunting this antenna can also be effective as a low power transmit antenna. The build will take place at the TMRA July 2018 Business Meeting. Rob has priced the kits and has offered two options. The Kits will include all parts needed to build the Antenna and the club will provide an analyzer to match and tune the completed projects. ?The price will be based on a minimum number of kits ordered. Once again I cannot find anyone willing to run the net before the date of the net. It would make me less troubled if someone would pick it up before the day of the net. I send this to you because you have ran the net or care about the net as much as I do and I appreciate that VERY MUCH. As always with the last new Tech class the Net becomes very important for the next month or so as outreach to the Newcomers. This is a very busy time of the year for TMRA and amateur radio. Topics for the net: ? May 5th I?m New to Amateur Radio, Now What? Event ? TMRA Bus Trip to DAY Hamvention, What to expect at the Hamvention and how to make your time count. ? Schoonmaker K8E SE this gets bigger every year and this year on Saturday afternoon and early evening the Museum of the Great Lakes will be having a fish fry on the ship so we will see a lot of visitors in the galley in the late afternoon and a possibility of operating later on Saturday. ? Progress on the Commercial Antenna Up Grades and members help needed. ? FIELD DAY?never too early to start talking about the big event of the year. Steve and Glenn need all the help they can get. Brad has a plethora of information to talk about below. Last week just getting out the information on the air took me about 30 minutes and all of the events were a topic of discussion for the net in itself. The TMRA N & E Net is the on radio face of the club to NW Ohio and the surrounding area. If you can commit to one net every two months that would keep us on the air and be a huge help to TMRA. No one person can keep us on the air every Sunday night. Thanks for reading my appeal. 73, Dave KD8EVN If you can assist in taking this Net please volunteer for it.
