This will be the 100th anniversary for the camp and ham radio has been requested for operation and demonstration to the Boy Scouts. We need to set up at least two stations and demonstrate ham radio. (Or more) Camp Miaconda is expecting a large crowd and we expect many questions about radio. Help is need for all phases of setup, demonstration, and explanation. Sorry for the short notice. If you cannot be at the camp, please be on the air to talk to the scouts through the 147.270 /pl 103.5 repeater. 9-5 Saturday. Contact KC8TVW and talk, fill the airwaves! If you can help please contact Steve KC8TVW by e-mail kc8tvw at arrl.net or call 419-467-3734 He would like conformation so he can (As the scout moto goes?) BE PREPARED! Too expensive. I wound up purchasing 4 hot water tank heater elements ($9:50 ea. at Menards) 120vac 1000w, that when connected in parallel, equaled the resistance I needed, about 1.8 ohms, and exceeded the wattage required, so I was safe. I connected them up today and test it. The power supply could deliver both a dead nuts 40vdc, but a steady current of 22 amps, ran the test for 35 minutes, never wavered. The cost of the heater elements was cheap compared to the cost of the power supply. I'm going to do a news letter article showing how to determine what voltage and wattage you need to build the 'Poor Man's Load Bank'. You can test any power supply that way. The Ohio QSO party is today! The TMRA is holding an operating event today at Maumee Fire Station #2 to operate the event. We plan to have at least 2 stations on the air (20m and 40m most likely). We'll start setting up as early as 9:30am (I will be starting to setup logging computers early), however, most will join the setup at the Fire Station after the ARES Meeting (which starts at 9am at St. Lukes Hospital). Operation starts at Noon and goes until Midnight today/Saturday (however, we likely won't operate all the way until midnight, timing depending on interest and activity). We do have a big need for operators and we will have room for some teaching/learning today. In fact, Steve (W8TER) intends to do an antenna build for those that are interested. (We won't be "all out contesting", so we'll have time to try some things and discuss) We'll be setup on the south side of the building and operating radios out of the south bay garage area (antennas in the South trees). Please come around back to park and join us if you are able! Feel free to call myself, Rob (KV8P) or Steve (W8TER) on 147.27 for more info. We'll do our best to keep a radio on/active. See you there! 2017 From: w8ter at bex.net (Steve Bellner) Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2017 16:49:58 -0400 Subject: [TMRA] Radio Programming Message-ID: <54ce2251-2b61-eb8e-99e5-197f4b6a4431@bex.net> TMRA is organizing a radio programming event for Monday September 11^th 2017. We intend to do this at the Maumee Number Two Fire House from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. (7:30 pm is when out Tech committee meeting starts.) We request your help programming radios for the amateur radio community. In brief, there are new hams who buy the less expensive manufactured radios and have great difficulty programming them. There are also some hams with other radios that can only be programmed by software. We are looking for volunteers with programming cables and software to offer programming on the evening of Monday September 11th to amateurs that are interested in having their radios programmed. (We will post a list of the different model radios) We will setup inside of fire station number two with our computers and cables. We can supply a list of appropriate frequencies such the local and area repeaters and, simplex frequencies. A list will be provided for all who want one. (I have a list) Programming would be provided for TMRA members and nonmembers. We are doing this to help amateur operators get more out of their radios Many of the hams on the air are new to amateur radio and have struggled with programming. Not because of lack of understanding but because of poorly designed and poorly written instructions. Please consider helping. Send an e-mail to w8ter at arrl.net and KV8P at arrl.net with what radio cable and software you have and what radio(s) you can program. Thanks for your time. 73, Steve, W8TER
