Greetings Dwayne.

It is very thoughtful of you to take the time to acknowledge and
share your remembrances of Karl. Though I did not know him, I have a
suspicion that he would be proud of the direction TMR has gone.
Through out the past several years we have been blessed to have some
real talent participating with the group and all that TMR does.

I plan on putting your e-mail in our history section as it will give
more depth to our history.

We still put on Classes twice a year and perform Ve sessions. We have
a technical committee that absorbs the new younger hams who have a
thirst for experimentation and learning.

There are still some members who remember the original founders but
they are becoming fewer as time passes. I suspect that if the
founders were able to see what their organizational skills have
accomplished They would be surprised at the average 150 + members
that we now have. I do not think they would fit into the basement so
we now meet every month at the Local Electrical Industry building. We
try to have an educational or entertaining program and conduct
business as we prepare for the yearly hamfest we put on.

We have a few members who Are "not old enough to drive" and we are
hopeful we can be as good an influence on them as Karl was on you and
your buddies.

If you make it to this area please feel free to call or let us know
you are in the area. We would love to add some more information to
our history.

73,

Subject: W8VSB Karl Koella

HI

I just found the Mobile Association website and read the history and
found Karl Koella's name (W8VSB).

I found your email on the website and thought I'd add a little to the
history.
I'll be doggoned if I didn't go to ham radio classes in the Red Cross
building in 1953. The classes were being taught by Karl Koella who
(as your history says) also started the TMR along with his buddy
'Red' and others. Karl Koella was singularly responsible for dozens
of hams getting their license, me being one. Karl always had a group
of guys hanging around in his basement on Oak Grove street with Karl
showing us how to build radios.

I got my Novice license in '53 and General in '54 but didn't join the
TMR because I wasn't old enough to drive :) But I did make a bicycle
Morse Code mobile that summer with a hand key strapped to my leg.

I lost track of Karl after I got married and was sorry to hear he
died in '99.

Thanks for your kind attention

Regards,

KB1YOO (previously W8PID)
