I'm not sure how well I can describe a Maker Faire as I have not yet been
to one and have only read about them on the internet. A Maker Faire is a
typically large event where people show off all kinds of DIY projects from a
diverse background of electronics, mechanics, robotics, art, etc... While
not a ham radio event ham radio projects could certainly play a role in a
Maker Faire and the other projects shown at a Maker Faire
could definitely be interesting to the same people whom like to build ham
projects.
There is to be a Mini Maker Faire up in AnnArbor this weekend at the
fairgrounds. It will have a ham radio display at the event so there
is definitely at least one thing there which is relevant for TMRA members.
I don't have any other information about the ham radio exhibit, who is
doing it or what it consists of. I'm sure the other exhibits would be
interesting for most members as well.

This is a "mini" Maker Faire because it is the first to be held in the
midwest so word is still getting out plus it is being arranged pretty much
at the last minute. It was actually going to be held at a small indoor
venue with limited occupancy which is why I waited to announce it here. It
was only just recently moved to the fairgrounds. The group putting it on
are from GoTech http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/notbago/ and they intend
to make this a yearly event with more planning and greater size next year.

If anyone is interested in going the Faire will be open from 10AM - 5PM
Saturday August 29th (tomorrow) at the Washtenaw county fairgrounds 5055
AnnArbor Saline Rd, AnnArbor, MI 48103 Building A. I know that's not
exactly local but it's not that far away either and I don't know of anything
similar in the area. Hope to see you all there!
