Hello John and great question! Over the years the white grease (same stuff used on the car distributor) tends to harden in spots of the roller bearings over the years. When this occurs, the following arm of the trimer capacitor jumps a little on the cam track (Big Cardwell cap) and presto the VFO oscillator presents a little frequency jump. If this does occur you need to take the vfo out. To do this procedure go to the TMC site, and check out with the step by step how to do it without ruining the tracking. I coached the airline pilot ham in that article and he passed with colors!

Tony, I built the test jig for the PTO. Was the frequency jumping problem with the roller or cap that followed the curve of the metal ribbon with all of the hex set screws? The metal ribbon rides on the cam which in turn is mounted on the Cardwell cap.

I believe (not sure) the tan was to Canada customer.  And by the way the TMC site has the fix for the 750 PTO jumping frequency while tuning
it (it is a pain in the butt but worth it).  In my 90 years so far, I had many experiences with engineering companies, could write a book.
