Figures. The SBE -2 uses a 17 Kc and 287 KC oscillator in the front end
of it. Audio starts mixing with the 17 KC and then progresses to the
287 Kc and then at 270 KC mixes with a 2-4 Mc oscillator section with is
then the MF section which again beats with another HF osc to provide the
final RF frequency.

The SBE-3 utilizes only a 250 Kc osc. section which explains why my xtal
for 3870 ended up on 3890. So there needs to be either a new crystal in
there to operate on 3870 OR use a VOX or other vfo type unit in order to
make things come out on the correct freq. Another something!!!!!!

Thanks to JP and RM for furnishing the SBE schematics. It was really
evident when i saw what was going on on paper.

According to the Manual i see, this unit was used with the GPT-10K and
has the wide sidebands of 250 cycles through 7.5kc. Not gonna be good
for the hambands.
