The repair of my GPE-1A continues. This was "working the last time i
used it" per the seller last year. Yeah right!
Replaced 3 of the 6 tubes so far. Power ouptut pot R48, 25K @ 5 W WW
open, Capacitor C61, 50uf @ 50V in the cathode of V6 shorted causing a
horrible overload and drawdown of the B+ voltages.
I do not have a copy of a GPE-1A schematic. Both of the ones i've
received so far are for the GPE-1. WHy worry? Well, as an example at
pin 6 of V2 the E/R chart says it should be 75K to gnd. There is a 68K
resistor to ground from that point however it doesn't show that on the
schematic and i'm measuring 270v @ pin 5 of V2 and the same @ pin 6.
I'm running the gear thru a variac and the AC line is set at 115Vac.
Curious as to whether or not the GPE-1A schematic shows the 68K resistor
whereas mine doesn't.
I'm chasing a continuous carrier that i'm hearing on my receiver thats
where my xtal says it should be. Carrier is there whether the key is up
or down. Only way i can kill it is to pull V1. Well can't operate the
thing like that can we>....Its been this way since i got the unit. Very
nerve wracking. Maybe not radiating very far and not noticable with a
split rec/trans site but when trying to use it on a single freq like us
hams usually operate, i can't hear any other station on my freq.
Voltages are way off on V2 but i would like to find a fairly current
schemtic. Not the GPE-1 but the GPE-1A to make some comparisons. Hard
to say how many more problems exist in this thing.
Arrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!
