Curt, my ANC-4 does not include a schmatic, only a block diagram and a
component layout.

The test I make is to connect up the ANC-4 as usual, set the Noise Phase
pot at about 10 o'clock but do not connect an external antenna. Turn on the
rig to a non-signal region of the band and null the noise being picked up
by the noise antenna. On my unit this occurs around the 12 o'clock position
of the phase pot.

I think that if you can find that null, you can be reasonably certain that
the unit is working.

I also find that most times I switch to Fast AGC on the Icom PRO and then
watch the Spectrum Scope in making the ANC-4 adjustments. Sometimes it is
hard to find a null just by listening.

ANC-4 performance overall is good, but there are times and situations where
it does nothing. The size, type and location of the noise antenna is the
secret. You want to pick up, for example, local line noise but not much if
any signal. I ended up with a short length of wire end-fed with coax placed
near the electrical service entrance. It amounts to a short voltage probe.

If you can hear strong signals with the regular antenna disconnected from
the ANC-4, you have too much noise antenna or it is located improperly or
both.

Any signal that the noise antenna picks up along with the noise will be
nulled as well.

Good luck!
