Overlapped body welds tend to invite rust by trapping moisture, butt welds are best.  Mig or tig.  Warpage is a huge issue, you put one in place with thousands of tiny tack welds spaced out, or you live with oil canning forever, no beads.  Plenty of videos on you tube of how to do it.  Pay the money and get a quality repair section, as there is stuff from China that is very low quality steel and formed by hand rather than dies, so they seldom match up.  Usually plenty of service beds (plumber, welder etc) available on Craigslist if you are patient, that might be an even better option for you.
